USCA: Support Reauthorization of Livestock Mandatory Price Reporting
Contact: Danni Beer, 202-546-4064 -
USCA (September 16, 2015) – The United States Cattlemen’s Association (USCA) is urging Senate support of necessary reauthorization of Livestock Mandatory Price Reporting (MPR). MPR, which expires every five years and will be marked-up within the Senate Agriculture Committee tomorrow, is a critical market tool for the livestock industry.

USCA Marketing and Competition Chair Allan Sents commented on the process, “MPR reauthorization offers an opportunity for producers and industry stakeholders to review the program and address necessary enhancements and changes. U.S. cattle producers and cattle feeders have enjoyed a period of stronger prices and demand; however, as the U.S. domestic herd continues to expand, the ability to leverage the cattle market will become a major factor in cattle buying practices. In the months and years ahead it will be critical for accurate and timely market reports and information to be provided for all segments of the industry. MPR must respond to today’s market to ensure transparency is secured across all levels of processing.”

“USCA has brought multiple options for improving this program to the table during industry discussions and though we are disappointed they will not be included in the final reauthorization language, we will continue to work with industry and USDA representatives to ensure that these needed enhancements are carried out. Until that time, USCA will continue to support MPR reauthorization, without interruption.”
