San Lucas, Calif. (April 19, 2007) Earlier this week, the Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas (ICA) voted to affiliate with the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association (USCA).
“ICA has been representing cattle producers for more than 30 years, and USCA is thrilled that ICA has decided to join the organization,” said Interim USCA President Jon Wooster of California. “I am confident that as USCA moves forward, the insight and support of ICA members and leaders will help ensure the success of this new organization.”
Founded in 1974, ICA focuses solely on the issues effecting cow/calf producers. With the support of its membership, ICA has made great strides in Texas and across the nation to protect grassroots producers and preserve ranching traditions for generations to come. ICA’s mission to be a voice for cow/calf producers will be complimented by ICA’s alliance with USCA on the national level.
As the first state organization to affiliate with USCA, an ICA representative will serve on the Board of Directors in the seat reserved for the Affiliate Council. This Board seat is a voting position that will rotate yearly between USCA affiliates based on the order of affiliation. ICA has chosen its President, Bruce Dopslauf of La Grange, Texas, to fill this opening.
“Affiliates are a direct conduit to the membership,” said Wooster. “By giving the Affiliate Council a seat on the Board, USCA ensures that the issues affecting the grassroots have a place in every discussion. I know that Bruce will be an excellent representative, not just for cattlemen in Texas but for affiliates across the country as well.” |
