In the old days every ranching crew had a tallyman.  Tallymen stand near the branding fire and tallied every animal branded or they counted the herd out the gate to keep track of the numbers.  They protected the outfit from being cheated when the cattle went to market.

Allan Sents is the manager and part owner of McPherson County Feeders, a 10,000 head commercial cattle feeding operation in Central Kansas.  He and his wife, Deanna, have four children: Eric, a high school math teacher in Virginia; Aaron, a Navy Corpsman assigned to a Marine unit based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Amy, a high school senior planning to attend her dad’s alma mater Kansas State University in the Fall; and Clarissa, a high school sophomore.

Allan received a B.S. Degree in Animal Science from K-State and a Masters Degree in Meat Science from Oklahoma State University.  After a brief stint in the processed meat industry, he joined his father in the feedlot business more than 25 years ago.

Allan says that he’s been concerned about the direction of U.S. cattle markets for a long, long time.  He was involved in a 1990's Packers and Stockyards complaint lodged against IBP and has advocated the need for market reform through various cattle organizations since then.  His particular focus is trade policy and regulatory application of the law.

Allan is involved in his church, Boy Scouts and loves to sing Barbershop music in his spare time.

Allan serves USCA as a director representing Region VIII:.  He hit the ground running with USCA, agreeing to serve as its Marketing Committee chairman where he’s blazing trail on cattle marketing issues.  “The current Congress is undertaking legislation aimed at curing some of the problems in the marketplace,” says Allan.  “USCA will ensure that cattle producers and independent feeders are at the table during the debate providing lawmakers with reasonable, logical solutions.”
